Cat. Note/Ref.: At the time of acquisition, the vendor suggested the portrait might be of the artist's brother. It is unclear when the Breslau-born Paula Fischer (1873-1950) left Germany for England or if she was accompanied by members her family. The painting may have been made prior to her departure as a refugee from the Nazi regime.
